The Wonder of Dreams. Eight common dreams…

Dreams confirm the wonder and mystery of phenomenal existence,  a statement the emergence of the unintended, the unthought out. Dreams crystallize in consciousness with exceptional possibility for insight and understanding of our waking state.

I read in a newspaper (so it must be true) that there are eight types of common dreams.  You may resonate with some of them.

We need to remember that we are every factor or component in the dream, not simply the witnessing self who gives description to the dream and any interpretation. In the dream world, the subject (the witness) and the witnessed (the dream) are essentially the same event.

Here are the eight common dreams.

In alphabetical order

  1. Being chased. Is there something or someone you want to get away from? Is there anything you need to turn around and face?
  2. Being lost or trapped. Are you in a conflict? Do you feel stuck and unable to make a decision? If you are violent towards somebody, are you feeling hurt and angry with the person, or more than that?
  3. Failing a test. Do you feel your attention is in the wrong direction. Do you feel you are not up to your expectations?
  4. Falling or sinking. Do you feel a lack of support? Is there any area where you feel insecure?
  5. Flying. Do you feel on top of a situation when you are flying around with ease?  If there is fear in the flying, do you experience a lack of power and fear you could crash in the near or far future?
  6. Illness or Dying. Do you feel hurt or wounded? Do you feel restricted and limited? Do you feel you are coming to the end of something. If  someone you know is hurt or dies, is it fear of loss?
  7. Missing an important event, plane, train. Do you feel you are missing an important opportunity? Are you afraid something will go wrong before your destination or goal?
  8. Nudity. Are you willing to feel exposed? Do you feel vulnerable? Do you feel that people can see through you.

You may be clear about the essential message of the dream.  You also have to respond to it.

1. What do the different features of the dream tell you?

2. Look at the daily life specifics of the attitude and  issue that the dream story exposes.

3. Reflect on what practical steps you can take.

4. Follow them through.

There are dreams that confirm joy, happiness and freedom of the spirit. Such dreams reflect the depths of integration of the inner life. There are the rare dreams  with a prophetic nature. There are dreams with messages from the Gods.

Some people dream frequently. Some of us can count on one hand the number of dreams we have in a year.  We truly wake up from the dream, night or daydream, through insight and transformation.
